I’ve been following Fez for years now, and know I hear that it’s only going to be for XLA? :\ I’m not going to be buying a 360, unfortunately.
December 17th, 2010 at 20:47
XBLA isn’t very indie. Sellouts.
December 17th, 2010 at 20:51
This is pretty glorious footage we have here. Thanks for an awesome Fez Friday!
@ AW – You’ve been following for years and you just heard that now? I’ve been following for about a year and I knew that from the get-go.
December 17th, 2010 at 20:59
I think that it’s been pretty obvious that it was going to be on XBLA :/
But yay, I’m excited, at least we have a year to hope that it’ll come out it.
December 17th, 2010 at 21:05
Needs more PC.
I don’t own an Xbox, maybe i’ll play it in 5 or 6 years when i have one.
December 17th, 2010 at 21:11
Two things I’d like to add :
- Additional Animation by ANNABELLE KENNEDY (she’s not working with us anymore but has provided many villager and Gomez animations)
- The video is one-take game footage, no video editing because we can’t use those to save our lives. The game runs at 60fps, but I can’t capture it at that rate so that’s why it may seem choppy. Also compression does bad bad things to vector lines.
Hope you like it, that was one hectic Fez Friday at the Polyplex!
December 17th, 2010 at 21:23
Any chance this will come to PSN aswell? I’d love to play this on my PSP. I’ll be picking it up for my 360 in the mean time. Not sure why you are getting all the XBLA hate. Keep up the amazing work, I love the style.
December 17th, 2010 at 21:26
I’D LOVE TO SEE THIS ON THE KINDLE. PLEASE?
December 17th, 2010 at 21:28
Please, please release this on PC. If this gets on Steam, your sales will potentially double, if not triple. D:
Also, really liking the footage.
December 17th, 2010 at 21:30
Wow, look at all the babby’s complaining that this is only on Xbox LIVE Arcade!
I can’t wait to play it, bring it on!
December 17th, 2010 at 21:54
All the good indie games seem to be coming out on Xbox 360 first. I need to get one soon.
December 17th, 2010 at 22:26
Eh, don’t be fooled by these cheapskates and noobs. Lots of us are eagerly awaiting the game on XBLA…
Can’t wait for the game guys, and I wish you great success!
December 17th, 2010 at 22:31
I seriously can’t wait for this game. It feels like i’ve been waiting for years
December 17th, 2010 at 22:47
Can we get this on PSN please?
December 17th, 2010 at 22:47
It looks great and I’ve been looking forward to it but I have oooone negative comment. Using the stock “A button” image to continue after reading the letter really sticks out. You even have a great, pixely A button for all the rest of the prompts, why not use it or something similar there?
December 17th, 2010 at 23:07
Wait, did you guys change the composer? I was really into the old music from 6955. Will it still be in the game?
December 17th, 2010 at 23:20
Whoa, what a lineup. Saltsman on animations and … Disasterpeace for music! Can this get any better?
December 18th, 2010 at 02:08
Amazing work, people! It’s truly a soul shaking intro.
December 18th, 2010 at 03:59
So I guess Summer of Arcade 2011 then? XBLA is great, actually XBLA is _the_ platform for indies because it’s the easiest way to get advertising, good sales and no illegal copies. I’m pretty sure there will be a PC version of Fez – about a year after the XBLA release. Just like it happened with Braid and other successful Indie Games on XBLA.
December 18th, 2010 at 04:59
It looks so good.
My Microsoft space bucks will be yours on day one!
December 18th, 2010 at 06:00
AAAHHHHH!!! YOU GUYS ARE SO FUCKING AWESOME!
December 18th, 2010 at 06:06
Look great!!!
Looking forward FEZ on XBL!!!!
December 18th, 2010 at 06:23
Looking good. I’m very excited.
To all those PC/etc. people, it’s probably part of the terms of their contract with MS that they’re not allowed to promote a version on another platform yet. MS is big on these “perceived exclusives”.
December 18th, 2010 at 06:43
Fuck Yeah! New Fez footage and it’s snowing on Florence. This could actually be one of the best days of my whole life.
December 18th, 2010 at 08:07
So. Much. AWESOME!
December 18th, 2010 at 09:51
Real shame this is only coming to XBox, could someone at Polytron like to clarify why? Thanks…
December 18th, 2010 at 10:06
If the game is eventually coming to other systems, I’m perfectly okay. PC is just my preferred platform of choice, and I don’t own an Xbox 360.
December 18th, 2010 at 19:03
When will you sellouts release a version for the Newton? C’MOooooOOoooN!
December 18th, 2010 at 23:04
I don’t see how indies allow themselves to get roped into XBox exclusives. Sure, people who already happen to own an XBox is fine with it, but limiting your market so much (only people who own a $250 piece of hardware can play the game) is a cruel thing to do to indie fans.
Not that Fez is actually a XBox exclusive. If it were, they would tell us absolutely. They would want everyone to know as soon as possible. The fact that they’re refusing to say for sure certainly means that it’s NOT an exclusive, but they’re under contract to not mention any other versions.
December 19th, 2010 at 06:10
“indies” get “roped” into XBox “exclusives” because Microsoft has this thing called the XNA platform which makes it downright streamlineable to get a game onto a console. Sony and Nintendo don’t have anything like it (I’ve heard coding for the PS3 is like simultaneously selling your sole to the devil and having long tedious philosophical discussions with God all wrapped into one head banging experience). SO since it’s like 3-5 people working on this (aka indies), and they created their own 3D graphics engine trixel (using voxels – way over my head), it would take like 20 years to get the game out for any other console.
As for the PC, well… I can see Microsoft having something to do with 86ing that (kinda ironic since they kinda created PCs).
December 19th, 2010 at 14:34
Disasterpeace is the fucking greatest! (Click my name for freely downloadable proof of his fucking greatness.)
December 19th, 2010 at 17:06
WHOA! Where’s 6955?!
December 20th, 2010 at 02:22
By golly, that was incredible, you guys! Thanks you!
I feel so in love with this game, it’s just so warm, sincere and beautiful, i’d pay 10 times of whatever the price tag will be.
Seems like during all those FEZ fridays you’ve just been teasing us with little images from that intro ^^
Also, Disasterpeace is great, but what happened to 6955?
That Fez demos EP you uploaded a while ago was amazing. I still listen to those songs quite often.
December 20th, 2010 at 09:09
Cool beans…i think you’ve picked the perfect place to debut it. Limbo this year, Fez next, yippers!
December 21st, 2010 at 04:31
I pray this comes to steam in 2012 or so. I sold my xbox a long time ago since I never played it. This game looks so awesome.
December 21st, 2010 at 12:53
When? .
December 22nd, 2010 at 14:17
Glad to see it coming together! I’m with the others on 6955, I was quite a fan, but I guess that’s the way the cookie crumbles on these things.
For everyone’s rampant concerns about this being on XBLA, I’m sure that it’ll come out for PC eventually, as coding for the 360 is pretty similar (at least in the graphical sense) to programming for windows machines. PSN seems less likely, mostly because of the fact that the architecture is so very, very different. It would have had to be pretty modularized from the get-go if they were gonna do that. And for the Newton and Kindle: yeah, that seems totally awesome, I think they should do it
Anyway, I’ll probably end up borrowing my roommate’s Xbox to play, and cross my fingers that you guys port to PC in the future
December 23rd, 2010 at 02:15
No Jason?
Also didn’t you guys announce the XBLA thing over a year ago? I don’t get the outrage.
December 26th, 2010 at 15:16
Seriously, are you telling us that the music we’ve all come to love and associate with Fez is gone forever? Please tell me only the track in this piece of footage is different. I am a very sad sack right now.
December 26th, 2010 at 15:46
Yup.
No more 6955.
December 31st, 2010 at 03:39
iOS anyone?!
The touch interface would go awesome with it…
And I guess it will be quite successfull,
as already seen with the recently released GREAT “World of Goo”…
December 31st, 2010 at 14:23
Glad this is finally getting close to release!
Looking great~congrats!
Now … too bad I don’t have a XB360 …
December 31st, 2010 at 17:58
I’m glad I got that 6599 soundtrack before his music was taken out of the game.
January 1st, 2011 at 20:21
hi
I’ll need this game.
but I’ll definitely not buy a xbox.
you must release it on PSn, and some months later on PC. and infortunately have it cracked 20 min after its release, thus multiplying the number of players by 1000. then your game will access cult level and you’ll become famous, get a huge $$$ contract by an editor for FEZ2 and other games and become rich with champagne, caviar, and easy girls in 5 star suites.
but if you release it only on XBLA all you’ll have is cheap vodka, barbecue flavoured chips and hairy nerds sleeping on your couch.
now you know what to do.
January 3rd, 2011 at 18:35
Releasing on PSN wouldn’t make much sense. It would mean porting it over to Playstation. They’re using XNA for all I can tell, so that means it’ll work without any porting effort on PC and 360, and with little to no adjustments will also run (though really choppy) on a zune.
January 4th, 2011 at 19:45
PSn much harder to port to if game made originally for Xbox release.
Then again, PSn are harder to program for comparatively, unless that only thing you know how to program for, which Tuhd suspect are not the case.
January 12th, 2011 at 02:01
Why do I have to buy an Xbox to play this… I was really looking forward to this, such a disappointment.
January 12th, 2011 at 02:41
+1 Steam / PC version
January 12th, 2011 at 06:48
Awesome, can’t wait. XBLA is definitely the best choice for you indies.
January 12th, 2011 at 19:13
Wasn’t Super Meat Boy originally made for XBox, then ported to other things? Tuhd would suspect same thing may happens with FEZ.
BTW, nice warp zone levels, Fish. Can Tuhd expect you to have bonus type content designed by other indies?
January 17th, 2011 at 13:43
Silly question then, but any suggestions of when you’re aiming for with this? Is it nearly done (great), already in submission (even greater) or nailed down with the onus now purely on Microsoft (greater yet, although that could mean anytime)? Already sad that it’s not down in their upcoming month of ‘special titles’…
January 18th, 2011 at 09:16
Don’t have an Xbox360 so I can’t play this game. Let down again.
January 18th, 2011 at 21:00
It is too bad that there isn’t a way to play all games on one system… Thank you, capitalism / greed.
Oh, well. I would have paid for this game, but I guess I’ll have to wait on emulation.
I’m not buying a whole new system to play a (artistically awesome {from the perspective of someone who played Zelda when it was new}, fun-looking, unusual, original, etc etc etc) game.
Surely the Polytron Corporation has made the smartest choice in going with the Xbox, huzzah more power to you.
But the PC/Wii/PS3/insert platform here player gets left out; hence the platform angst.
I hated the Genesis/SNES “wars”. Why can’t we all have the same f-ing games across the systems? Don’t give me any hardware/language excuses. Give me games!
Give me games! Or at least sell them to me…
Anyway, the thing looks fun and I’m sorry I’ll miss it, barring a PC/emulator release.
January 21st, 2011 at 11:31
“I would have paid for this game, but I guess I’ll have to wait on emulation.”
By this, I think we all assume you mean ‘piracy’. In which case… well. I get it, you (along with plenty of others) are pissed that there’s no PC or other format release planned yet. But commenting on the board of a game that’s effectively been one guy’s (well, a few guys) labour of love for ages and effectively saying ‘I’m going to steal your game’ just makes you look like a dick. Sorry, but it’s true.
January 22nd, 2011 at 06:33
Who say no PC release planned? Tuhd not see Fish say it.
Tuhd only see one confirmed (xbla), but NO denials of other modern systems. Doesn’t mean it not exclusive, but Tuhd would think by now, with all uproar, Fish or one of team would at least say “hey, get over it and buy an xbox.”
January 22nd, 2011 at 10:32
I really wonder if this is going to have an actual story/plot that you can follow or is it going to be like a pure puzzle game with the gameplay “just to collect 50 yellow square-cube-thingies” in each level and move on never to return to the level before?
January 22nd, 2011 at 15:21
Waited for this long & only on shitbox…
Epic fail…
January 22nd, 2011 at 16:53

that looks awesome, I can’t wait to get it on xbox!
January 24th, 2011 at 04:00
As a follow-up to my previous post: I have now heard a fair chunk of Disasterpeace. Sounds awesome, I’ll be excited to hear what he brings to the game! In addition: I failed to mention that Paul Robertson is awesome.
And last but not least, is that colorful cube a projection of a tesseract by any chance? I like the implied meaning “Fez only sees in two dimensions, but he’s no more limited than you seeing only in three!”
Still excited for the game, two and a little after I started following it.

He did say it’s not going to be available on Jaguar.
January 28th, 2011 at 01:13
@Scuzz
It’s not that Disasterpeace is bad, he’s a great chiptune artist. It’s just that he has a very different style. It just seems like it’ll completely change the feel of the game.
February 1st, 2011 at 18:26
@millhouse Jaguar hardly count as modern system. lolworthy comment though.
February 4th, 2011 at 23:57
Hey, I’m tired of the haters in this comment thread! I bought an Xbox just to play Braid and Castle Crashers, and I would buying one for Fez if I hadn’t been holding off selling it until I get to play this!
February 7th, 2011 at 00:14
When I first saw the teasers for Fez, immediately 6955′s music stood out to me. Still listen to his Fez EP fairly often. *hopes 6955 is still involved*
February 7th, 2011 at 13:21

Lmao dude the 360 is a far better system with a larger installed base and the is still outselling the ps3 making it the only system that continues to show year upon year growth…. your argument is laughable xbla is a fantastic launch platform for an indie developer that xbla has consistently supported.
March 2nd, 2011 at 19:28
XBox 360 this, PS3 that. Keep your console fanboyishness to yourselves (hint: MS and Sony don’t care about you), I just want a PC release so I’m not tied to a console that’s red-ringed on me twice already.
March 10th, 2011 at 15:50
why were you guys not at the Independent Games Fest that just passed?!?! HUGE missed oppertunity
I think maybe this project could benefit from someone having their mind on marketing… but just my opinion
March 10th, 2011 at 18:24
I think someone external to the creative process within Polytron is definitely needed to advertise/market/speed up the process… Taking this long to bring out an indie game & lack of communication from Polytron is being truly counter productive to what looks like to be a great game… Even the most stalwart of fans are getting weary waiting I fear.
Any words Fish?

the end of that video reminds me of lost
