I’m glad to see Fez doing so well. I wish the developers and the company best of luck in finishing it. If only there was a way to have both styles. Each has something I like more than the other in them.
Glad to see the project is still going. I hope to see a demo or something of it soon, as Crayon Physics Deluxe finally got its full release.
But one thing that would satisfy my craving for Fez lovin’ is the release of the Fez theme song used in the GDC demo. It’s got a nice melody to it and have always wanted to hear the full song. Sadly there was never a release and 6955’s site has not been updated in ages.
I like the new set better except for the background tiles – because they are more numerous than foreground tiles, the repetition in their pattern might become too obvious. I think if these were simplified a little bit (not quite as much as the old tiles), it would be a perfect balance.
The only thing that stands out to me (in a bad way) of the new ones is the brown background area. They aren’t as easy to instantly tell apart from the other platforms
New Fez has lighter drop shadows under the grass.
New Fez’s medium grey tiles are lighter.
New Fez’s “ground” tiles are less contrasty.
Old Fez’s “ground” tile corners are rounded.
Old Fez’s grey tiles look more polished.

Love the game(FEZ). Hope you guys will release a demo soon. Also what platforms will this be on?

First off, the game looks great. But I liked the old graphics better than the new ones (at least partially, some new tiles are better.)

The solution is simple- provide two graphic tilesets.

Gonna have to agree…i like the old FEZ better…the new one is just too busy…hopefully they provide two tile sets to choose from

I’m guessing you simplified the artstyle to fit better with the game? I like the new set, less shading and definition
January 26th, 2009 at 17:48
the new look is kind of stale. but i bet you’re doing something nice with it upon rotation.
January 26th, 2009 at 18:05
i like the new set more, but the shadows could be a bit darker for my taste. It’s a bit pale now.
January 27th, 2009 at 07:54
I like the new set, its more like simplifacation which is all bout in this game. *GOOL DUCK* to u devs

The old graphics look superior to the new ones. They look much more polished.

The new tile set looks good. the added details are great.
6955’s theme from GDC 08 is something I’ve been waiting for. Hopefully we can see it released soon.

I’m torn. The old and the new. The new will probably grow on me, I like it already, it’s just…new.
Overall, I think it was a good decision, though, fits the old Mario nature of the game itself.

As for me, old Fez was better.

I like them both. The new grass is cool IMO

Is it just me or does it look like the guys just nicked off the look from Cave Story?
February 3rd, 2009 at 22:15
Erm, sorry, I think the old tileset is much better. I like your website though.

There’s a “lighting” difference.
Is it concept art or in-game rendering?

Looks like old Fez is getting more love than new Fez.
March 5th, 2009 at 02:21

вы молодцы)

the new tiles are great. I liked the old too. However I don’t think the shadows quite match with the new tile set, they seem to not be sharp enough.
Where the original tiles had gradients, the new set is sharp. The shadows should match this.
